Deleting your account

This page covers how to permanently delete your LedgerBear account, what happens to your data, and how to change your mind during the grace period.

How to delete your account

Open Settings → General and, under Delete Account, click Delete Account…. A confirmation dialog asks you to enter your password. If you are the sole owner of any households, the dialog lists them — those households and all of their data will be deleted along with your account.

Click Delete Account to confirm.

What happens right away

As soon as you confirm:

  • You're signed out everywhere, and you can no longer sign in normally.
  • Your account is scheduled for deletion but not yet erased.
  • Households you solely own are scheduled for deletion alongside you. Households you share with other owners are left alone — you're simply removed from them.
  • We email you a confirmation with a cancellation link in case you change your mind.

The 30-day grace period

Nothing is permanently removed for 30 days. During that window your account and data are retained but inaccessible, so you have time to reconsider.

A few days before the deadline, we send a reminder email with the deletion date and the cancellation link, so the deletion never comes as a surprise.

Changing your mind

You have two ways to cancel during the grace period:

  • Use the cancellation link in any of the deletion emails. It restores your account and any households that were scheduled for deletion alongside it.
  • Try to sign in. You won't be signed in while a deletion is pending, but entering your correct password sends you a fresh cancellation link and shows the date your account is scheduled to be deleted. Use that link to restore your account.

Once restored, you can sign in and use LedgerBear exactly as before.

After the grace period

When the 30 days elapse, your account is permanently deleted. This is irreversible — the cancellation link stops working, and your data is removed from our systems (any copies in our backups cycle out shortly afterward). We send a final email confirming the deletion is complete.

Permanent deletion removes everything tied to your account, including your sole-owner households and their accounts, transactions, categories, rules, and reminders.
