Renaming your household
Owners can rename the household from the Settings page. This is a pure display change — no data moves, no URLs change.
How to rename
- Open Settings from the profile panel in the top-left. (Only Owners see this link.)
- In the Household Name section at the top, click Edit Name.
- Type the new name (2–255 characters).
- Click Save.
The new name shows up immediately in the profile panel under your own name, in the household switcher, and anywhere else in the UI that references it.
Good names
A household name is just a label — pick anything that helps you and your members recognize it:
- A family name:
The Smiths. - A purpose:
Joint Finances,Rental Property,Side Business.
Avoid putting sensitive information in the name (account numbers, full names if you want privacy, etc.) since it may appear in emails sent to invited members.
Other members see it too
Every member of the household sees the new name the next time their UI refreshes. The change is household-wide, not per-user.
You can't rename a household you don't own
Editors and Viewers don't see the Edit Name button — only Owners can change it. If you're an Editor or Viewer and the name is wrong, ask an Owner to rename it, or get promoted to Owner first.
You can't currently delete a household
Rename is about as drastic as household-level surgery gets in the self-serve UI. Deleting a whole household (and all its accounts, transactions, members, and invitations) isn't a self-serve feature at the moment; contact us if you need that.
