A tour of the interface
Once you sign in, LedgerBear shows two main regions: a left sidebar for navigation and a main view that changes based on where you are. Here's what's in each.
The left sidebar
From the top down:
- Your profile. Click your name to open a panel with your email, the list of households you belong to (switch by clicking one), a shortcut to Household Settings (owners only), and a sign-out button.
- Accounts. Click the header to go to the Accounts list, or click the plus icon to create a new account. Below the header, your accounts are grouped into Cash (checking, savings, and cash accounts) and Credit (credit cards). Each row shows the current balance. Clicking an account jumps straight to its transactions.
- Cashflow. Month-by-month income, expenses, and projected balance across all your accounts.
- Categories. Your full category list, where you create, rename, and regroup categories.
- Rules. The rules that auto-categorize transactions.
Inside an account
Click an account in the sidebar and you'll land on its Transactions tab. A top bar across the account view shows:
- On the left, a breadcrumb (
Accounts › Your Account Name). - In the center, a row of tabs that changes depending on the account type:
- Checking / Savings / Cash show Transactions, Forecast, and Reminders.
- Credit Card accounts show Transactions, Spending, and History.
- On the right, contextual buttons — a Search box and an Import button on the Transactions tab, a Create button on the Reminders tab.
The Cashflow dashboard
The Cashflow page is a single wide table with one row per month, a Year-to-Date summary, and prior-year totals. Columns show Income, Investments, Expenses, Net Worth, Cashflow, and — for months that haven't happened yet — a Projected balance. See Reading the cashflow dashboard for what each column means.
Categories and Rules
The Categories page lists everything you've created, either grouped by type or sorted by average monthly spending — toggle with the switch at the top. Clicking a group or a single category drills into a detail page with a monthly chart and every transaction assigned to it.
The Rules page is a single table of all your rules, showing which account they apply to, what memo text they match, and which category they assign. Use the Create button to add a new one.
Settings
Only household owners see the Settings page, reachable from the profile panel in the top-left. It's where you rename the household, invite members, change a member's role, and revoke invitations.
